Upcoming events
Events planned for 2012 will be listed as they are announced.
Next Branch meeting: Thursday 26th April, 7.30 pm
Benham Seminar Room, Zoology Building (2nd Floor).
The meeting will be a Conversazione around the discussion topic of a book or piece of literature you can now
reflect on that has influenced you in some way to do with gender and gender issues either generally or personally. It
may be that you realised it was of influence at the time and identify it for that reason or you may only now have
realised in looking back that it was significant in some way. It would be good if you can bring the book with you
but this is not essential.
With the conversazione format we use you will get a chance over the evening to share with almost everyone
present. This means, naturally, that time will be slightly limited so I suggest you have either one personal offering/
suggested book and go into more depth or two and share your memories of them more briefly. I will have paper for
us to record our group’s choices and on this list you can record more than two if you wish.
For example, in reading “Middlemarch” for the first time recently I was amazed how contemporary Dorothea’s
issues were in not wanting to marry and lose her identity. But as a child my favourite book was “The Famous Five”
and my favourite character the tomboy George. Looking back now I can reflect that perhaps that had an influence
on me.
We really look forward to hearing about your choices and their influences.
