The book is a follow up to the 1975 surveys Women at Home and What Price Equality? It looks at women’s changing lives over the last 30 years.
New Zealand women from all backgrounds, ages and geographical locations were interviewed for Cracks in a Glass Ceiling, this fascinating “must read” study of how far we have come, where we are at and where we are going.
Joyce Herd had a long experience in women’s (and other) organisations, as treasurer, secretary and president, at local and national level. Her publications include: An Index to Tomorrow (the radical NZ periodical of the 1930s), Women in Trade unions, Women at home, What Price Equality?, historical/tourist publications on Dunedin and handbooks on accommodation for the elderly, usually in collaboration with others. Joyce was a Life Member of the Dunedin Branch of the National Council of Women and a long-time member of the Federation of Graduate Women.
